High pressure will settle along the Appalachian chain today, making for generally clear skies and light winds. However, Arctic air will arrive late Monday, resulting in temperatures that will be 15 to 20 degrees below normal for January. Factor in gusty winds, and wind chill temperatures will fall below zero across the mountains and into the single digits across the Piedmont each morning from Tuesday through Thursday, impacting the morning commutes. A modest warmup will take place toward the end of the workweek.
